ARTICLE 1 – PREAMBLE

SEDAT PEKCANATTI PHOTO GRANT has been organized nationwide (in TR) 5 times so far and 3 photographers have benefited from this fund. This will be the first year that the grant will be awarded internationally.

SEDAT PEKCANATTI PHOTO GRANT is intended to support and accompany documentary photographers who provide different stories worldwide to celebrate humanity. Its essence is to reward a photographer who will have been able to demonstrate his/her attachment to humanity, from the perspective of diversity, equality, and most of all freedom of information. The winner will receive an endowment 1,000 $ (one thousand USD)

Golge Fanzin and crossthesilkroad partner to support documentary photography through the Sedat Pekcanatti Photo Grant 2024. This award is open to all photographers to develop and complete documentary work that has already been initiated.

The purpose of this document, hereinafter the ‘Rules’ is to determine the terms of the Grant.


ARTICLE 2 – THE CALL FOR APPLICATIONS PROCESS

The opening date for submitting applications is 1st March 2024.

The closing date for applications is 1st June 2024 at 11:59pm. (UTC+3)

Files received after midnight on 1st June 2024 will not be taken into consideration.

An acknowledgment of receipt is sent when the application has been received. In the event of no receipt being received, no claims will be accepted.

The organizers reserve the right to close applications when 100 (one hundred) files have been received.


ARTICLE 3 – PARTICIPANTS

The Grant is open to any photographer meeting the conditions specified in article 4, hereinafter the ‘Participant’.

One single creative project per Participant will be accepted per edition of the Grant.


ARTICLE 4 - TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

Participation in the Grant is FREE. Participants must cumulatively:


Be of legal age (+18)

Have already initiated a documentary photography project


The Participant must send to the following address: sedatpekcanattiphotogrant@gmail.com before 11:59pm on 1st June 2024 a 'wetransfer' download link with the complete application file including:


a coherent series of 12 (twelve) photos, from the existing project, in jpg format (1000 pixelsx1500 pixels, 150 dpi), each file should be named as follows: NAME_FIRSTNAME_NUMBER from 01 to 12, and be accompanied by a Word document for the captions. The winner and finalists will be asked for high-resolution files.

a text presenting the project in English including a statement of intent. (1 page maximum)

the completed and signed application form

The application form must be filled out in handwriting, preferably scanned with a scanner, and then sent to sedatpekcanattiphotogrant@gmail.com along with the other required documents. Individuals who do not have access to a scanner can take photographs of each page of the form and submit them. Please note that the organization reserves the right to request the original application form from the winner of the Sedat Pekcanatti Photo Grant via mail. The participant must sign the bottom right corner of each page of the application form, even if no designated space is provided.

a CV outlining the Participant’s achievements (courses, exhibitions, publications, awards, etc.) (1 page maximum)

Any application completed with incomplete, incorrect, or counterfeit information or contact details or produced in violation of these Rules is inadmissible and will be rejected, and as such Gölge Fanzin cannot be held responsible. The Participant guarantees that the artworks proposed to the Grant are original and new and that they are the exclusive bearer of exploitation rights attached to these artworks. The Participant must obtain authorization from any third party, notably, individuals depicted whose image is used. If the works proposed include all or part of works by a third party protected by copyright, the participant must disclose this in their file, by mentioning the name of the authors or right holders concerned, for due consideration.


ARTICLE 5 – AWARD


The winner will receive a grant of 1,000 (one thousand) American Dollars (USD), to be able to continue or complete their project. This amount (hereinafter the ‘Grant’) covers fees, rights, and technical costs.


ARTICLE 6 - DESIGNATION OF THE WINNER AND AWARD PROVISION


6.1 Pre-selection of Participants


All files will be reviewed and teams from Golge Fanzin will select 10. We reserve the right to request the original high-definition files from those who are pre-selected. After this pre-selection, the files of the Participants selected will be presented to the jury (hereinafter the ‘Jury’, more precisely defined in article 6.2), which will select the winner.


6.2 Selection of the winner and finalists


The Jury, chaired by Cenk Mirat Pekcanatti, Editor of Gölge Fanzin, will comprise Ahmet Sel, Photographer, Gülbin Özdamar Akarçay, Photographer and Academician, Mustafa Bilge Satkın, Photographer and Academician, Şirin Ayça Sayılır, Photographer, Aytunç Akad, Photographer, and Videographer and Latife Solak Baudet, Photographer.


It will meet in June 2024. It will designate 1 (one) winner for the Grant as well as 4 (four) finalists (hereinafter the ‘finalists’). It is specified that the award of 1,000 USD (one thousand) is reserved exclusively for the winner. The jury’s decision is final. No appeal can be submitted.


6.3 Procedure for allocation of award


The winner will be informed by email and/or by telephone depending on the information provided in their application. If the information provided by the Participant at that time prevents them from being informed about their award, they will cease to be the winner and may not make any claim, Gölge Fanzin may not be held liable. The winner will receive the award from Gölge Fanzin in one installment: • 1,000 (one thousand) USD, which will be wired to the account of the winner on Thursday 1st August 2024.


6.4 Authorisation


The winner and finalists authorize Gölge Fanzin to take photographs of the images from presenting their work at the Grant and to use 5 images from their project submitted to the GRANT for the promotion of and communication about the GRANT on any media or by any processes hitherto known or unknown, worldwide and for 10 years renewable from the date of the announcement of the winner.

The winner’s award, described in article 6.3, covers the rights of exploitation by Gölge Fanzin of the images of the project finalized by the winner for the following uses:


a possible exhibition at any photo festival (for 2024);

paper or digital communications materials for free distribution to the public (leaflets, brochures, flyers, press releases, etc.) for 10 years as set out above;

provision for the press of 5 images for communication about the grant

publication of a portfolio on the Gölge Fanzin


ARTICLE 7 – OTHER OBLIGATIONS OF THE WINNER AND FINALISTS


The winner and finalists are obliged to:


Participate in interviews and features to promote their work and the Grant;

When available attend press conferences with sufficient warning from Gölge Fanzin.


The winner is obliged to:


Promote Sedat Pekcanatti Photo Grant 2024 by raising awareness on their own websites to promote themselves as well as the Sedat Pekcanatti Photo Grant 2024 initiative.

Furthermore, any future use by the artist of works produced within the framework of the Grant must be accompanied by the following credit: ‘Work produced with the support of the Sedat Pekcanatti PhotoGrant 2024’.

In addition, the winner agrees to include their biography in any exhibition presented at in any place accompanied by the credit ‘exhibition produced with the support of the Sedat Pekcanatti Photo Grant 2024’.


ARTICLE 8- FORCE MAJEURE


In the event of force majeure or if the circumstances so require, Gölge Fanzin reserves the right to change these rules, to postpone or cancel the Grant. It will not be held liable in any way as a result of these changes.


ARTICLE 9 – RULES


Taking part in this Grant implies full acceptance of these rules including, as they arise, any amendments and addenda.


ARTICLE 10 – LITIGATION


This Grant is subject to Turkish Republic Law and to the High Court with territorial jurisdiction.
